Building Name
Roundout Plaza
Description
Location can’t get much better for this convenient shopping plaza! This highly visible commercial space at the corner of 9W and Murray Street in the City of Kingston already has access to an adequate shopping population, with single family homes and large multi-tenant complexes in the immediate area. Even more growth is well underway however, with new development occurring throughout the city, but especially just east along the Hudson waterfront.

City of Kingston Statistics:

  • Area: 7.35 square miles

  • 2010 Population: 22,544

  • Population Density: 3,065.5 people per square mile

  • Average Household Income: $58,508

Excellent corner visibility is yours here at Rondout Plaza, with frontage along both 9W and Murray Street. 9W is a busy 141.8-mile route connecting Kingston to all points north and south, running generally along the Hudson River and carrying an average of 17,000 vehicles per day. A couple miles west is Interstate 587, serving just the City of Kingston and carrying an estimated 13,800 vehicles per day. Just a small stretch further is the highly-trafficked and extensive New York State Thruway, Interstate 87. The city allows easy access to Albany County (50 miles north) and New York City (80 miles south).

Kingston has proven to be an increasingly desirable place to live and operate business. Rondout Plaza in particular enjoys the added benefit of being surrounded by not only a mix of single family residences, but also large multi-family complexes. Directly west is a 200-unit, 12- story apartment building and across the street is a 60-unit residential complex.

Development continues, with recent large scale projects taking place in the area, especially along the waterfront. For instance, recently breaking ground was the Villages at Hudson Landing, a proposed 1,682-unit “ ‘new’ traditional neighborhood” with central public greens, supporting shops and businesses, and a one mile stretch of Hudson River waterfront, all in a walkable, thoughtfully designed neighborhood. The site will consist of 535 acres, with 350 acres of that open space. Sixteen single family homes, 1,125 townhouses, and 541 apartments and businesses are in the works.

There is always something going on just down the street at Rondout Landing, and all over the Rondout section of southern Kingston, all within walking distance to and from Rondout Plaza. Hudson River sightseeing cruises are boarded just a half-mile south at the Landing, and kayak tours are regularly held along Rondout Creek. Area artists have been contributing sculptures to the beautiful Rondout Waterfront Walkway, a new landscaped trail with views and access to the creek.

New exhibits are continuously circulated at the Hudson River Maritime Museum, the only museum of its kind in New York State, recently offering the “The Face of Work” exhibition, featuring photographs and artifacts relating to the history of employment along the Hudson River Valley. Various events, exhibits, waterfront festivals, and children’s workshops held at the museum draw in more than 20,000 visitors annually, much of this traffic passing right by Rondout Plaza!
