Description

The City of Yonkers, and the many artists that create their works and feature them in different parts of the community, will welcome visitors to the fifth annual Yonkers Arts Weekend on May 5 and 6. Pictured above is artist Patricia Santos, who spends her days as an early childhood educator at The Goddard School in HastingsOn-Hudson, but spends her personal time in her loft in Yonkers’ YOHO Artist Studios in the Carpet Mills Arts District. Patricia is just one of the hundreds of different artists that will be featured on Yonkers Arts Weekend. The products of a wide variety of local, regional and international artists, painters, photographers, musicians, performing artists and sculptors will be featured in four of the city’s most exciting cultural hotspots – the Downtown Yonkers Waterfront District, the Carpet Mills Arts District, South Broadway and at the Hudson River Museum. As part of this year’s Yonkers Arts Weekend, the city will continue the tradition of live mural paintings, this time along the South Broadway corridor of Yonkers. The weekend will also feature interactive art events for the public, street performers, and pop-up galleries. Performances, workshops and galleries will run continuously throughout the weekend and are all free for children, teens and adults. The Hudson River Museum will once again waive all admission fees throughout the weekend, and the city will provide free bus transportation to shuttle visitors to each venue. New this year, the YOHO artists will partner with PowerLab of Yonkers, CMAD owner, and Yonkers Arts in the production of an open-air arts festival – the inaugural CMAD at Yonkers Arts Weekend Arts Festival. This festival is an extension of the open studio, bringing more live music, performances, family-friendly activities, demonstrations, food trucks and more. Also, Westchester School of Jazz and Contemporary Music will host live performances in its YOHO center both Saturday and Sunday. CMAD at YAW is scheduled to run from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. The entrance to YOHO Artists’ Studios is at 578 Nepperhan Ave., Yonkers.
